THE DEN SPIN

February 2008

Scout Sunday
Sunday, February 10, 2007 is Scout Sunday at Getwell Road United Methodist Church. We will be participating in the 8:30 and 11:00 Worship Services.   All Scouts and Leaders are invited  and encouraged to participate and we ask that you arrive 20 minutes before the service and wear your full Class A Scout Uniform. Our Scouts will be bringing in the Flags and be Greeters.  We will also be recognizing the Scouts that have worked on their religious medals. Please come and help us show the church how much we appreciate their support.

Graduation
Please note that we have had to change the dates for Graduation to April 25-27, 2008.  The reason was a conflict with several Council dates.    Please mark your calendars and make plans to attend this campout.

Blue & Gold
Pack 190’s Blue & Gold Banquet will be Saturday, February 23,  2008  4:30PM - 7:30PM.  Please mark your calendars for this exciting event.  The theme for this year’s Blue & Gold will be ”Pack 190 Olympics“. The Blue & Gold Banquet is a chance for the Scouts to show off what they have done so far this year and many will be receiving their Rank Badges.    There will also be a  Father/Son Cake Bake Contest and door prizes.  Please see the attached invitations for additional details.

Blue & Gold Committee
We need parents to help us plan the Blue & Gold Banquet.  Preliminary plans have been made, but there is still much work to be done.  Areas we need assistance with are setup and decorations, serving food, securing donations for door prizes, video,  and cleanup.  Please support your Scout and Pack by serving on one of these Committees.  Please let Lisa Wimberly know which committee you would be willing to help with.

Photos  Needed
We are looking for photographs taken at Scout events to put together a slide show for Blue & Gold.  If you have taken pictures, we would like to have them. Please put them on a CD  with your name on them and they will be returned to you.

Items Needed
We are looking for items to give away as door prizes at the Blue & Gold Banquet.  If you have connections with a business who would be willing to donate items, please let Ms. Lisa   know.

Cub Scout Resident Camp
The Knights of Kia Kima is the theme for Resident camp this year.  Check out the web site : http://www.kiakima.com/resident.shtml
The Council is offering a Cub Scout Resident camp for our Scouts June 4-7, 2008.  Resident Camp is an overnight camp at Kia Kima in Hardy, Arkansas.  This is a great opportunity for our Cubs to get the adventure of Scout camp and earn some requirements for their next rank badge. Last year our Scouts had a lot of fun! The cost is $110 per Scout and $65 per adult, with $25 due by February 18th with the attached Reservation Form.  We need to have an adult for every three Scouts going.

Chili Lunch
February 10, 2008 we will be serving Chili after the Church Services.  Many thanks to Jamey and Deseree Ramsey for heading this up.  We need to have a couple of  parents to help cook Chili at the church on Saturday.  If you are interested in helping, please let Jamey or Mrs. Lisa  know!

Leaders  Notes
University of Scouting:  If  you are interested in going, please see  Ms. Lisa.  For those who are going, we will meet at 7:30 am in GRUMC parking lot and carpool to Christian Brothers University.
Blue & Gold:  The Church will be open at 12:00 noon for you to come and decorate your tables.  We may be able to set up the tables Friday Night or early Saturday Morning.   Please let me know how many tables your Den will need.  Each table will sit 8 people.
Also, if you want to order some decorations from Oriental Trading for the Blue & Gold Banquet please e-mail me by next Monday.   Check out www.orientaltrading.com. Valerie will need advancements for the Blue & Gold Banquet no later than Monday, February 18th.

Parent Reminders
Parents, the Church requires that an adult bring and picks up their child from the meeting room.  Children are not allowed to run around unattended outside. This is especially important now that we have construction going on in the front of the Church.   If  you have any questions or comments regarding this matter, please see Lisa Wimberly.

Aluminum Cans
Do not forget that you can bring your aluminum cans anytime and put them in the trailer on the North side of the building marked “Cans Only.”  Please do not set them at the front doors as someone has to take them to the cans trailer after the pack meeting.
