Our Focus:
Our teaching curriculum is Virtue-Based. Our new focus is virtue based. During Power Hour, we teach one virtue per month with a different Bible Story each week, and then we teach kids how to apply it to their lives. This is reinforced by sending home God time cards for parents to review with their kids during the week. Once a month, parents can purchase virtue packs to further reinforce the virtue with their children in the morning, in the car, when they eat and when they go to bed. You can order the Virtue CDs & material at the Information Center in the Family Life Center lobby.
" Attention, Israel! God, our God! God the one and only! Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got!Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates. " (Deuteronomy 6:4-9)
Power Hour
Power Hour takes place on Sunday mornings at 9:45 AM for kids ages 4 years to 5th grade. Worship starts at 9:45 AM for those who arrive early. Large group environment teaches worship and the Bible Story while small group focuses on applying it to kid’s lives. The 4 year olds to 3rd grade have their own large group time separate from 4th -5th grade. Parents should bring their children to the Chapel if they are 4 years to 3rd grade. Fourth-fifth graders go to their classrooms in the Family Life Center (Girls RM 3213 & Boys RM 3211).
Children’s Church
Sunday morning during both our Worship services (8:30 & 11 AM), kids aged 4 through 2nd Grade have their own church!
If you come to our 8:30 AM service, find a seat for your child with you and they'll be dismissed for Children's Church early in the service. Children who are staying for Power Hour will be transitioned straight there; parents do not have to come and get them from Children's Church and then take them to Power Hour. Children who are not staying for Power Hour should be picked up after Worship in the Chapel.
If you come to our 11 AM service and your child attends Power Hour, they will be transitioned straight to Children's Church by our leaders. You can pick them up in the Chapel after the service is over. Visitors or kids who do not attend Power Hour will be directed to the Chapel for 11 AM Children's Church.
Please read our "Pickup Policy" below -- which applies to ALL of our Children's Programs including Children's Church.

Getwell Road UMC Child Sexual Abuse Position Statement
Getwell Road United Methodist Church, in continuing to provide a safe and caring environment for our children and youth and to protect those who work with our children and youth, has adopted the following guidelines and precautions:
I. Procedure for Screening Individuals Working with Minors
1. Each volunteer/paid worker will fill out an Authorization and Request for Criminal Records Check form. The results of the Criminal Records Check will be kept confidential and reviewed only by appropriate Church Staff members. Based on the results, a decision will be made as to whether the worker can volunteer in this ministry. Disqualification in Children/Nursery/Youth does not prevent participation in other ministries at Getwell Road United Methodist Church.
2. Director of appropriate age group reviews all potential volunteers and may request a personal interview.
3. If seeking a paid position, an application must be completed and a personal interview may be scheduled.
4. Approval of paid positions is based on application, interview, background check and/or references.
II. Policy Statement for Working with Minors
1. Church membership and/or minimum attendance period at GRUMC may be required before assuming a volunteer position. This will be at the Director and Pastor’s discretion.
2. Adults who have been convicted of physical and/or sexual abuse will not be allowed to volunteer service in any church sponsored activity or program for children or youth.
3. Off campus activity plans must include requesting written permission from parents and coordinating in advance.
4. All overnight stays/trips must follow all approved guidelines and any adult chaperones must have been approved by the designated director. There must be at least one male and one female chaperone for any overnight event involving children of both sexes.
III. Response Plan
1. All workers should report any signs of abuse to age-level Director within 24 hours. Age-level Director will report all information to the Senior Pastor and Administrator.
2. If any worker is accused of abuse, the appropriate age-level Director will immediately contact the senior Pastor and Administrator.
3. The appropriate course of action will be determined on a case by case basis.
