DESIGN BUILD TEAM UPDATE

January 23, 2007
Despite the cold and rain in January, much progress has happened on the new construction. During the months of November and December, we experienced 20 rain days that impacted work on the foundations. This caused us to be about 3 weeks behind schedule. However, with the pouring of slabs for both new buildings now complete, we’re set to be back on schedule by mid-February.
• Steel work for the major columns and joists is about 95% complete on the Children’s Building. Floor joists and decking is scheduled next to prepare to pour the slab for the second floor. Steel for the AEA Building is on-site and that work should start very shortly.
• Dirt work continues with the retention pond and grading around the new parking lot for the back. Surplus dirt is being moved off-site in gradual steps.
•  Continue to pray for the workers’ safety, for quality workmanship, good weather for the building project, and the future newcomers to Getwell

December 2007
• Steel is scheduled for delivery this week!
• A 1200 square foot metal maintenance building will be built in the southwest corner of the property adjacent to the new parking area. This will replace the existing garage.
• The old Scout trailer has been removed.
• Footings are being formed & poured for both buildings.
• Rough-in for plumbing and electrical is underway.
• The elevator pit for the new Children’s Building has been formed.
• Concrete will be poured shortly to form the new building slabs. Weather
   permitting.
• Retaining wall on the south edge of the property is completed. This is adjacent to the new drive that will pass south of the new Children’s Building.

November 2007
Dirt work on the building pads for the 2 new buildings, Children’s Education Building and Adult Education/Admin. Building, are complete. Grading of new parking areas behind the new buildings (West-side) continue. Storm drain infrastructure is currently underway, and the main dirt work project remaining is the water retention pond on the front Southeast corner of the property. This is the lowest point on the church property. Just to clarify, this is a water retention pond that will fill with water during rain, but will be a grassy low area during dry spells—a smaller version of the one in front of Desoto Central High School.

A retaining wall will be built along the new drive on the south side of the new Children’s Building.

The building pads are being prepared for footings, rough-in plumbing, and underground electrical service. Shortly thereafter, concrete will be poured to form the building slabs.

Steel is ordered and delivery is expected mid-December.

After the grading of the new parking area is complete, new pole lighting will be installed. Then the sub-surface and finish surface for the parking lot will occur.

The Design Build Team (DBT) is moving forward to replace the existing church garage with a new and larger maintenance garage on the back Southwest corner of the property. This will be adjacent to the new parking area.

DBT asks that the congregation continue lifting the building project up in prayer. Pray for the safety of the workers. Pray for the wisdom and discernment of the DBT, General Contractor, and Architect. Pray for no delays in obtaining quality materials. Give thanks for the selection of quality sub-contractors and generous bids. Pray for the children and families yet to accept and grow closer to God—that Getwell serves this community by making an eternal difference. Pray that God receives all the glory for this building project.
